What is a Turkey data eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital profile stored on your phone. You add it by scanning a QR code or entering details from your provider. There is no plastic SIM card to collect at the airport.

The plans we offer for Turkey are typically data-only. They give you mobile internet for maps, WhatsApp, iMessage, email, and browsing. They do not replace a full local phone number for traditional voice calls or SMS unless your package or device setup says otherwise.

Good to know: A data eSIM is ideal when you want predictable data while exploring Marmaris, Fethiye, Bodrum, or after landing at Dalaman Airport.

Home network roaming

Convenient if included in your plan, but daily caps and fair-use limits can make heavy map or video use expensive. Check your UK or EU operator before you travel.

Turkey data eSIM

Often easier to budget for a fixed data allowance in Turkey. You activate when you arrive or shortly before, and you keep your usual SIM in the phone if you use dual SIM.

Shop SIM in Turkey

Physical SIMs are sold locally, but you may need ID, a shop visit, and time to register. An eSIM you ordered ahead can save hassle on day one.

Phone compatibility

  • eSIM support: Your handset must be eSIM-capable. Many recent iPhones and Android flagships support eSIM; some budget models do not. Check your manufacturer settings for "Add eSIM" or similar.
  • Unlocked device: If the phone is locked to a carrier that blocks eSIM travel plans, you may not be able to add a second profile. Unlocked phones are simplest.
  • One-time QR: Some codes can only be scanned once. Install when you are ready and follow the email instructions we send after purchase.

How to install and activate

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi before travel if you want to add the profile early, or use airport Wi-Fi after landing.
  2. Open your phone's cellular or mobile data settings and choose Add eSIM or Add cellular plan.
  3. Scan the QR code from your confirmation email, or enter the manual activation details if provided.
  4. Label the plan (for example "Turkey data") and set it as the line used for mobile data while you are in Turkey.
  5. Turn on data roaming for that eSIM line only if your device asks for it. Exact menus vary by iOS and Android version.
Tip: Screenshot or save your QR code safely before you fly. Do not share it publicly; it is unique to your order.

Dual SIM and calls

Many travellers keep their home SIM for incoming SMS or bank codes, and use the Turkey eSIM for all mobile data. In dual SIM mode, choose which line handles data so you do not accidentally roam on your home network.

Voice calls over traditional GSM may still use your home number unless you use apps (WhatsApp, FaceTime, etc.) over the data connection.

Tethering depends on the specific package and network rules. If sharing data to a laptop or tablet matters for your trip, check the product details before you buy.
